Israel today faces an intensive and increasingly sophisticated assault on its very right to exist as a sovereign democratic Jewish state. For this reason, The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), in partnership with the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA), created the Israel Action Network, a strategic initiative intended to counter this onslaught of delegitimization. By using its vast community-based infrastructure, IAN educates, trains and strategically mobilizes constituents to reach out to Jewish and non-Jewish audiences who are vulnerable to messages that demonize Israel and Israelis.
Since its launch, IAN has become the “go-to” resource for communities seeking to receive the latest information, strategies and best practices when it comes to defending and supporting Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state. IAN is the principal coordinating arm in North America for dealing with national and global forms of delegitimization ranging from countering anti-Israel bus ads and billboards, to responding to apartheid accusations and educating about military aid to Israel. IAN regularly facilitates the sharing of resources and strategies in order to develop and implement tailor made action plans for proactively and reactively responding to assaults made on Israel’s legitimacy.
In order to do this, IAN provides materials and tools, as well as aids, distills and builds on creative ideas from communities that will nurture a network of support for Israel. IAN has developed partnerships on college campuses with Hillel, JAFI and the Israel on Campus Coalition; and collaborates regularly with Jewish organizations; religious streams; labor, minority and women’s organizations; interfaith leaders; progressive groups and social justice advocates; policy experts; journalists and many more, to shape our outreach strategies with the “target” communities.
IAN is developing targeted messages and multi-faceted engagement campaigns that combat delegitimization while providing communities with the envisioned strategic guidance, support and results. During 2012, IAN will add new communications vehicles, training, education and access to resources from global to local levels. Gleaning and sharing intelligence, organizing and mobilizing, will create a true network of concerted action so that each community – wherever they are located and whatever their size – can more effectively counter the assault on Israel’s legitimacy. Won’t you join us?
